GENERAL INFORMATION Keyworker System At Stepping Stones we aim to offer
the highest possible quality of experience for both children and adults in
the group. Because of this we use the keyworker system. Each keyworker has
special responsibilities for a few children. You will know the name of your
child's keyworker from the beginning of your involvement at Stepping Stones.
Each of our keyworkers is responsible for maintaining development records of
their children, by observing, keeping records, monitoring the child's
progress and providing play plans. Our keyworker system enables us to
ensure a planned curriculum tailored to the needs of each individual child.
During their time at Stepping Stones all children are supported in developing
their potential at their own pace. By mean of developmentally appropriate
play activities and a high level of individual adult input, we offer a
curriculum that prepares children to progress with confidence to the National
Curriculum at school. Fees The Government funds 5 free
sessions a week for children aged 3 or 4 (the Nursery Education Grant,
which is £8.70 per session – see below for more details). Our fees for children aged 2 are
£8.50 per session. Fees for children aged 3 or 4 are
£8.70 for any session not covered by the Grant, e.g. if they attend 6
sessions a week. Lunch Club is £3.50 per hour.
There is an initial registration fee of £10 for two-year-olds. Fees are
payable at the beginning of each half term. You will be asked to pay for all
sessions booked. Exceptions to this will only be permitted in special
circumstances, e.g. if your child has a prolonged illness. Nursery Education Grant All
children are eligible for the Nursery Education Grant from the term after
they are 3. It entitles them to 5 free pre-school sessions a week for 38
weeks per year. |
School links Stepping Stones has good links
with local Primary schools, and during the summer term the reception teachers
visit us. Outside Environment In good weather we regularly use
the adjacent garden area for outside play, by kind permission of the owner.
We feel the children benefit from visiting the local community, and as we are
ideally located in the centre of the village we arrange walks out to
incorporate this, e.g. to the Post Office to post letters, visits to the
church yard to collect leaves, look at bugs etc. Parent and Carer Rota We operate a parent/carer rota. We
find that children benefit greatly when there is an extra adult to join in
their play, read or chat to them. We ask you to sign up for at least one duty
per term for however many sessions a week that your child attends. Medical Care Should your child become ill
during the session or have an accident that requires medical attention, we
will contact you. Should you not be available we will contact your emergency
number. At least one staff member (often two) each session will have First
Aid Certificate. Our registration directs that we should not be responsible
for administering medicines. However, if a special case exists for long-term
medication, special arrangements can be made. Noticeboard The noticeboard is positioned at
the bottom of the steps as you come in. This will carry information about
themes for the week, session plans, term dates, fees and special events. Sweatshirts/T-shirts We
have red Stepping Stones sweatshirts and T-shirts for the staff and children.
Please see application form for prices and ordering details. |
