THE CURRICULUM Planning the Curriculum The activities and work are
planned in outline for the whole year and then broken down into half-term
programmes around themes or topics of interest. Topics range from seasonal
subjects, which are covered each year, to themes of general interest. Session
plans are done for each day, which will be displayed on the noticeboard.
Included in the seasonal topics will be the opportunity to look at festivals
from other cultures. Further details are available in
our Prospectus, but an outline of the Curriculum is given here: Language and Literacy In small groups, large groups and
at individual reading time, children are encouraged to talk about their own
experiences, listen and join in, using an increasing vocabulary. Personal and Social
development Within a safe, friendly environment they develop
confidence, self-respect and independence. They are all given equal
opportunity to initiate ideas and take responsibility for themselves, the
group and property. |
Mathematics Children become familiar with
sequencing, sorting and counting, and recognising and recreating patterns,
through various activities including number rhymes, songs, counting games and
books. Knowledge and
understanding of the world A safe and stimulating environment
allows children to explore and experiment with a variety of natural and
manufactured materials. Topics include different cultures, their own
surroundings, their environment and their families. Physical development Good adult supervision supports children
as they develop increasing skill and control in moving, agility, balancing
and fine-motor skills. Creative development Children are encouraged to use a wide range of resources
in order to express their own ideas and feelings. |
